The Best Time To Visit Vietnam

Before you travel to Vietnam, it is important to do research about the weather to make sure of an enjoyable trip. One first thing you must remember is that Vietnam is a tropical monsoon climate, so the weather depends heavily on the rain and regions. In this post, we will show you the overall weather patterns in this country.

Northern Vietnam

Northern Vietnam is generally divided into 2 parts: North-East (Hanoi, Halong, Ha Giang,…) and North-West (Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Son La,…). Both parts have many similarities in term of weather and seasons. The best time to visit Northern Vietnam is during October and November when the temperature ranges from 20 to 30 degree. Moreover, the weather is sunny and the humidity is quite low which is perfect for traveling around.

Hoan Kiem Lake

During the winter season (about December to February), Northern Vietnam is the coldest region in Vietnam. Low temperature, 0°C to 17°C, added with high humidity indicating a bad time to visit the North.

From March to April, the weather gets better and you can travel during the spring. It is an excellent opportunity to venture through the North West since the temperature is lower than in the North East plain. The average temperature here is about 25°C with high humidity and sometimes drizzling.

Hao Cai - Moc Chau

The rest of the year is the summer season which is extremely hot, from 28°C to 35°C, because climate changes like El Niño are increasing the temperature over the year. Heavy rains and mists may occur and make traveling difficult both in the plain and on the hill.

The Central of Vietnam: Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An

The central is the home of the most beautiful beaches of the country. The weather here is the warm year – round with the temperature in the summer usually goes upper 35°C (July and August) and around 24°C (75°F) in the winter.

From February to late July is the dry season which has the most sunshine hours and little rainfalls. It is perfect to spend a holiday in this time of the year lying on the stunning white soft sand and enjoying the turquoise water of the incredible central beaches such as Lang Co, Cua Dai, Nha Trang, etc. Remember to always bring your sunglasses and sun cream to protect you from the heat.

Lang Co Beach

If you don’t like a beach cramped with people, you should avoid going to these destinations from the mid of June because a lot of Vietnamese families are likely to choose central beaches as their destinations for summer vacation. This means the beaches will be crowded, hotels run out of the room and the food price shoots up. But apart from this time, you still have plenty of time and spaces to enjoy your holiday. From August to November is the wet season when the temperature is milder but rain is more often. Typhoons can be strike once in a while during this season.

Nha Trang Beach

The central highland also has the same climate but the temperature is cooler, especially at night.

The South of Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, The Mekong Delta, Con Dao

The tropical climate in the south splits into 2 seasons: dry and wet but still maintains the constant temperature owing to its location closer to the equator. The average temperature is between 25°C and 35°C.

The dry season is from November to April, while the more humid and hotter months are February and May. The wet season begins in May and ends in November with the highest rainfall receiving in 3 months from June to August. It can rain cats and dogs but in the short amount of time, usually in the afternoon. This can cause some flooding problems but making the south become the most prosperous land in the country.
